SILENT HERO - E-Book AVAILABILITY March 31, 2026

Original Paperback: Silent Hero

Storyline

Silent Hero's reader journey begins with a puzzling  riddle:

Why is Glenn Sorensen, who is driven by intense, protective and eternal love, writing his autobiographical novel from inside the walls of a Missour State Prison.

The story begins in the gentle summer of 1963, Glenn Sorensen is a high school senior, a small-town guy looking forward to college and career. While lounging with buddies by poolside, Glenn is amazed to be tapped on the shoulder by the beautiful and mysterious Amy Rivera, a classmate with whom he has spoken only once. Glenn has heard the swirling rumors about Amy’s family, but he is smitten. Despite the fierce opposition of his parents and the steer-clear warning of Taylorsburg’s bumbling and corrupt police chief, Glenn falls in love—tenderly, hilariously, hormonally, deeply, and eternally.

But the Rivera family does have secrets. Amy has a secret of her own beyond anything Glenn could even imagine and his love for Amy sends a naïve young man down paths he never imagined.

Silent Hero delivers a trip down nostalgia lane:  The post-war optimism and patriotism. Rock 'n Roll and crazy new dances that parents worried about. The cars and cruising., The basketball games and sock hops and slow dancing.

But then a shot rang out in Dallas, November 22, 1962 and the ground shifted, and wouldn't stop shifting.

Silent Hero delivers an epic love story wrapped in a suspense thriller wrapped in a searing metaphor of a generation’s journey through a turbulent century.

Reader Feedback

    - I thought it was a beautiful book. I never knew what was going to happen next and I didn't want the story to end because I liked the characters so much. You have written a book that others should have an opportunity to experience

   - …found your latest effort...GREAT !!! Of course I thought the "first" Corbin [Accidental Soldiers] was a wonderful story. You are becoming my favorite read. You pulled me in and would not let go, each turn caught me by surprise.

   - WOW! Could not put it down.

   - Finished Heroes yesterday - tears running down my cheeks. I really got drawn into that darn book and your story, and could relate to the people and the times and the veterans and the protestors and the young lovers and ...Thanks for a great read.

   - Bill, your ability for story telling is off the charts!! On a scale of 1-10, I give this book a 20. When can I read your next novel?

   - Well, you succeeded in really screwing up my weekend… Spent way too much time on reading “Silent Hero,” AND finished it Sunday evening! You’ve written a real page-turner--fun to read and anticipate how this teenager could become involved in something that would lead him to prison.

- Glenn Sorensen is my new iterary hero:  tender, tough, funny, irreverent, vulnerable, and fiercely, unconditionally in love with his Amy.

  - I enjoyed this book from page one. I usually do not like to know the ending the beginning. But it was not the ending when he was writing in prison. It was a lot for a young man to go through but I shared the struggles with Glenn as the story moved through his life. … it would be a great movie although rarely do movies do a book justice. I would highly recommend this book.

Author Inspiration

Silent Hero leans most heavily on my roots—as a small town guy living the era that began in the early 1960s. I borrowed heavily from Union City, Indiana, for geography, locations, and the house that Glenn Sorensen lives in. But Silent Hero is not autobiographical as will be obvious at the conclusion. Still, I could pour a kind of emotional connection into this book that I loved during the process, and that you’ll sense as you read.

Silent Hero works as both story and metaphor, making it perhaps my most literary effort.

The story’s main characters, Glenn, Amy, and Glenn’s mom, are real to me in a way that makes the writing process an almost unimaginable joy  They almost literally wrote their own dialog. I am confident you’ll enjoy taking our multi-decade journey with us.
