One woman. Three predators. A game she never intended to play.
Jackie Billings is a suburban mom looking forward to her annual visit with her fun-loving sister. Mia’s bohemian lifestyle provided a much-needed escape from a life too busy and a husband too possessive. A bit of unexpected flirting with a charming airline pilot seemed like safe, fleeting fun.
It wasn’t.
Jackie makes a pair of decisions having consequences impossible to believe, introducing her to Ted Aldrich, the "A" of a team of ageing conmen who stalk a woman annually. They call their game The Alphabet Affair, and this year Jackie is the prize.
As the Alphabet gang’s plan gradually enmeshes her, Jackie realizes that her errors have potentially deadly consequences, threatening everything she holds dear. She must find resilience and toughness she never imagined in the cocoon of her suburban lifestyle
The Alphabet Affair includes a colorful cast of characters, some lovable, some fun and funny, and some despicable as the story twists and turns toward its climactic finale.
- Absolutely could not put it down.
- I think this is the best of the four.
- This book caused me to flip to the last chapter to see if Jackie was all right, for the first time in my life.
- The change in Jackie as the story goes on was amazing.
- I love Jackie Billings!
- It’s encouraging to think that a person could change as much as Matt [Jackie's husband] changed. Thanks for a great story.
- Your bad guys are bad guys, man.
- I thought this was the best of the four I’ve read. Very compelling storyline. I looked forward to revisiting the book each evening this week.
Alphabet Affair was conceived during a period of intense study of the fundamenta idea that story is defined by the protagonist's journey to defined objectives. The emotional power of the concept is determined by the importance of the objectives and the magnitude of the adversity the protagonist faces. This book gives Jackie Billings major challenges in her marriage, her family, her career her freedom and her life. She is poorly prepared at first, meaning that personal growth is its own challenge. As a writer, it was a challenge of imagination, as there was no established model that I was aware of.
